WHAT IS THE MENTORING PROGRAM MENTORPOWER?

Mentoring has already been tested and acknowledged as an efficient tool to help fight against youth unemployment. The mentoring program MentorPower is innovative on two aspects: it targets the sector of young migrants and it adopts a specific methodology, "engagement mentoring".

In this project, we will not work on asylum and immigration procedures, since it isn’t part of our skills. We want to act, next to social workers, by offering one-to-one support to young migrants that wish to integrate the labour marker, in order to let them overcome cultural and linguistic barriers. Therefore our experimentation targets young people coming from all parts of the world, Europe included.

It aims to develop new skills for both the mentees and the mentors:

For the mentees:

  • Enhance youth employability thanks to the mentor support (orientation advice and professional network development)
  • Contribute to their empowerment; that is help them to develop their self-confidence, to identify their objectives and favoured occupation and to tackle the challenges of the job market more easily
  • Allow them gaining transversal skills such as a critical mind, problem resolution, leadership, collaborative learning

For the mentor / mentees:

  • Allow them to gain transversal skills such as problem and conflicts resolution, active and non-judgmental listening
  • Live a truly human experience made up of shared encounters
